The project.
“Gib den Gästen nur vom Besten aus den Kisten, aus den Kästen; von den Resten kannst Du Dich dann selber mästen” (From the boxes and crates give guests only the best. You can feed yourself from the rest). The operators of the beautiful and popular Spatzenhof have remained true to their original motto to this day, although much else has changed since it was coined back in 1959. The hotel and restaurant offering high-quality countryhouse cuisine was reopened in 2009 after undergoing comprehensive, painstaking refurbishment and extension work.
Originally serving as a children’s home when it was opened in 1913, the Spatzenhof is now to be transformed into a fully-fledged hotel complex. A suitable piece of land has already been purchased for this purpose.

The Spatzenhof’s transformation has local political backing and aims to promote tourism in Wermelskirchen and in the Bergisches Land as a whole. It will involve the development of a pilot project based on the tourism strategy of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. According to our analyses of the market of the potential offered, the Spatzenhof should be positioned as a Premium (holiday) resort while retaining its existing structure and excellent image. The Spatzenhof offers wonderful views of meadows and forests, a multitude of outdoor pursuits, medicinal wellness treatments and cultural activities, all complemented by an excellent restaurant. And with its central location and good accessibility, the Spatzenhof is set to become the ideal destination for city dwellers and nature lovers keen to take some time out in beautiful and relaxing surroundings.
